Образец  опроса 1,2

Результаты опроса.

Firstly we would like to say that most students think that traveling abroad is better by air. A few people think it isn’t convenient to travel by train. Hardly anyone thinks that traveling by ship is comfortable. These statements are based on mass media. No one thinks that traveling by car is possible. All agree that the best entertainment is to visit museums, castles, and places of interest. A few people like visiting parks. Hardly anyone prefers horse riding. Most people need a single flat during the holidays. A few people want to live in families. Most students like living in hotel. Hardly anyone prefers a lot of appliances in their rooms.  No one chooses electric toothbrushes. By collecting necessary information all pupils wish to have TV in their rooms. Internet-materials help them to choose the best ways of spending time abroad. All pupils think that they’ll have the best holidays.

  1. Рефлексия о проделанной работе.

To tip or not to tip?”

What should you know traveling abroad?

Canadians and Americans usually tip in places like restaurants, airports, hotels, and hair salons because people who work in these places get low salaries. A tip shows that the customer is pleased with the service.

At airports, porters get a dollar for each bag. Hotel bellhops usually get a dollar for carrying one or two suitcases. A hotel door attendant or parking valet also gets about a dollar for getting a taxi or for parking a car. Many people also tip hotel maids, especially when they stay in a hotel for several days. They usually leave a dollar a day.

The usual tip for other kinds of service – for example, for taxi drivers, barbers, hairdressers, waiters, and waitresses – is between 15 and 20 per cent of the check.

The charge of the size depends on how pleased the customer is. In restaurants, the bill does not include a service charge; however, if the group is large, there may be a service charge. There is no tipping in cafeterias or fast food restaurants.

“What do you know about the Americans?”

The American mixture of pride in achievement along with lack of importance placed on personal dignity is sometimes difficult for a foreigner to understand.

An example of this way may be that although Americans like to talk about their accomplishments, it is their custom to show certain modesty in reply to compliments.

Clothing in America, as in every place in the world, to a certain degree reflects a person’s social position and income, yet no person is restricted to a certain uniform or manner of dress because of his occupation or class in society. In many companies employees are allowed to wear casual slacks or jeans on Friday because of the coming weekend, though on other days of the week they are expected to wear formal office clothes when a tie is a must. Women in offices usually wear skirts, blouses and stockings.

Yet in spite of all the informality, America is not completely without customs that show consciousness of social distinction. For example, one is likely to use somewhat more formal language when talking to a superior, while an informal “Hello” is an acceptable greeting from an employer. Southerners usually say “Yes, sir” or “Yes, ma’am” when talking to an older person or a person in position of authority. “Yes, Mr. Watson” or “No, Mr. Right” is somewhat more common in a similar situation in the north or west.

Also, because an American is more likely to admit and laugh at his own mistake than one who stands more on his dignity, a foreigner sometimes does not know how to handle an American’s is quite apparent modesty. The American is quite ready to admit certain weaknesses, such as “I never was very good at mathematics,” “I’m a poor tennis player,” or “I’m the world’s worse bridge player.” Although Americans are quite informal, it is best for a foreigner, in case of doubt to be too formal rather than not formal enough.
