But before we start, let us warm up our tongues.

Students, have a look at the black board. Here you can see the tongue twister. Let me read it first. Listen to me, do not repeat.

While we were walking, we were watching window washers wash Washington's windows with warm washing water.

Let’s translate it. Repeat after me. Pronounce the ending –ing correctly. Read one by one. Ok. Thank you!  Now look at the blackboard and say what we are going to talk about. Right! Past continuous Tense! Let’s read the information about the tense in ex. 46, p. 16. Look through the examples. What happens in negative and interrogative sentences? You may speak Russian.  Итак, вы уже заметили, что в отрицательных предложениях появляется частица “not”  и встает после вспомогательного глагола. В вопросительных предложениях вспомогательный глагол встает перед подлежащим. Запомните как образуется данное время  was/were + V ing. Now please, read the sentences in ex. 47, p. 16 and translate them. Ok! Let’s continue! Now you try to make up your own sentences. Ex. 48 on p. 16 will help you. Other pupils will translate. Are you ready? Hurry up! Let’s check it up! The next task to do is ex. 50, p. 17. Do you know all the words from the task? Say what they were doing one by one. Alright! Are you tired? Let’s move and sing our favourite song:

Good! Take your seats! Let’s continue working! It’s time  for you to express your own ideas using the Past Continuous Tense. Do ex. 51, p. 17 in writing. Ready? Divide into  3 groups. Share your ideas and choose the most interesting ones. Have you finished? Ok. Please, open ex. 14 on p. 35. Complete the sentences in writing. Are you ready? Ok, I will wait for you. Time is up! Let’s check up the task!

When do we use the Past Continuous tense? Say that you were doing it too.

1. I was playing chess at 6 o’clock yesterday.
2. I was helping my mother in the garden at this time yesterday.
3. Polly was watching cartoons yesterday.
4. We were reading books at 3 o’clock yesterday.
5. They were swimming yesterday.
6. He was looking through the newspaper when his mother came in.
7. She was watching at the Milky Way yesterday evening.
8. Mark was investigating the Solar System.

Fine! Now please open ex. 52 on p. 17. Look at the pictures for two minutes. Now close your textbooks and answer my questions:

What was father doing?

What were children doing?

There were ten sweets on the tray, weren’t they?

What was there inside the spaceship.

I think it’s time for us to learn a new song to relax:
